The embodiment hypothesis revisited: evidence from the U.S. local exchange carriers
Article Abstract:
An analysis of US local exchange carrier (LEC) performance as determined by the embodiment hypothesis reveals that the conventional specification of the cost function may not adequately reflect LEC technological structure. The study shows that a competition index may inserted in place of the time variable to control for disembodied technical change with the resulting variables aptly able to explain more than half the rate of technical change.
