Cardiovascular medicine has greatly improved due to advances in procedures, medical equipment and medications. It is expected to improve further as new ones are being developed. An area in which extensive research is being conducted is genetic engineering, which is used to developed new drugs.

Biological hazards and medical care in space

Space medicine experts predict that humans may one day be able to stay in space for several years without suffering serious damage. However, more research on improving resistance to radiation damage and infections will be needed before humans can stay in space for prolonged periods of time.

Suspended animation: the cold facts

The technique of suspended animation is often used in science fiction works, and although it does occur in nature among fish, rodents and turtles, it cannot apply to humans as they have a different anatomy and biochemistry.
