Justice releases proposed regulations to implement electronic FOI changes
Article Abstract:
The Department of Justice's Office of Information and Privacy published proposed regulations implementing the 1996 Electronic Freedom of Information Improvements Act. Most other government agencies would probably model their regulations on these. Most media organizations had favorable comments about the proposals.

Agencies allowed to establish own policies for the deletion of electronic records
Article Abstract:
The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled in Public Citizen v. Carlin that government agencies could decide how to maintain their electronic records. This overruled a district court, which agreed with the plaintiffs, that argued agencies had to maintain records for public access.
