An overview is presented on the Wire Interception and Interception of Oral Communication Act of 1968, specifically as to whether journalists should be prosecuted for disclosing the contents of telephone conversations if they played no role in the unlawful interception of those conversations, or whether they can be held liable for reports they make based on their sources' illegal wiretapping activities.

Wen Ho Lee story reminder: secrecy calls for skepticism
Article Abstract:
An analysis is presented of the media coverage directed at Wen Ho Lee, a Taiwan-born, US-naturalized citizen who eventually pleaded guilty to one felony count of mishandling classified information. While his plea was less drastic than the charges leveled against him, Lee is still considered by the American public to be a spy due to the intensity and the slant of coverage the story garnered.

Solid reporting defies last year's worst

Issues discussed concern the solid and responsible investigative journalism that took place in 1998 that was sometimes overshadowed by criticisms of undercover reporting.
