H.G. Wells and the liberating atom
Article Abstract:
H.G. Wells's The World Set Free has written physicist Frederick Soody into the optimistic phase of the narrative and has provided the first fictional account of nuclear war, thereby setting a pattern for more sophisticated subsequent nuclear war novels. The capacity of the novelists to produce coherent narratives about the destructive force of the super-weapon is tested on a series of post-war writers, including Leo Szilard, Walter M. Miller., and Russell Hoban.

Post/humanity and the interstitial: A glorification of possibility in Gibson's Bridge sequence
Article Abstract:
William Gibson's complex Bridge sequence explores simulation, virtuality, presence and pattern to probe their impact upon the ongoing emergence of the post/human. Gibson's recent sequence positions the molecular as central to ushering in new potentialities, manifest as the post/human emergence of Rei Toei and the foundation of autonomous communities and it also glorifies the possibilities inherent in the interstitial cracks of the post/human cultural pavement.
