Reporter gets 18-month sentence on porn charges
Article Abstract:
A federal district court judge gave a journalist an 18-month sentence after he pled guilty to charges of transmitting and receiving child pornography over the Internet. The journalist had argued that he had posed as an online trader of child pornography in order to adequately research a freelance article on child porn. The judge rejected the journalist's argument that he had been engaged in a newsgathering activity protected by the First Amendment. The journalist will appeal the court's decision to exclude his First Amendment defense.
