Reporter pleads guilty on porn charges: judge refuses to allow First Amendment defense
Article Abstract:
The US District Court of Maryland ruled in United States v. Matthews that a reporter was not exempt from federal laws prohibiting the transportation of child pornography. The reporter was collecting information on child pornography via the Internet as part of research for a story and he argued his actions were thus protected by the First Amendment. The court disagreed, denying the reporter's First Amendment defense.

National Public Radio not a government entity, judge rules
Article Abstract:
A federal court dismissed the suit of Abu-Jamal v. National Public Radio, ruling that the defendant was not a government body and thus had not violated a death row inmate's First Amendment rights by not airing his recorded commentaries. The plaintiff claimed that National Public Radio's decision was in response to protests of the Philadelphia Police Union.
