Killings beg for computer analysis
Article Abstract:
A computer analysis of the growing number of victims of drug killings in Columbus, OH, was undertaken by The Columbus Dispatch. The main reason behind the investigation was to find out why the number of drug slayings in the city was doubling. The two reporters assigned to the task collected all available information on the victims and fed these into the paper's computer system. The rising number of killings can be attributed to thegrowing number of drug peddlers and the declining number of drug users in the city.

City assets: Financial meltdown prompts reporting of flawed San Diego real estate records
Article Abstract:
San Diego was on the verge of bankruptcy, unable to borrow money or provide residents with basic public services, for which an investigation was conducted to determine the reason for the city's financial meltdown. On investigation, a seriously flawed inventory was found, not only missing land property records, but also including those properties that the city did not own and records that did not often reflect how the city-owned land was used.
