Structure, characterization, and the new community in four plays of Jesus and the Doctors
Article Abstract:
Four English plays about Jesus and the Doctors stand as a significant dramatic form on their own. The plays come from the play cycles of Towneley, York, Chester and Coventry. The four stories cover the end of Nativity and progression into Ministry and Passion dramatic sequences. Each story is uniquely constructed instead of a variation on one play, and the Doctors are well characterized in their arguments with young Jesus. The stories portray the creation of Christian community and a detailed Jesus character.
