Liturgy and community in N-town 'Passion Play I.'
Article Abstract:
Liturgy offers a plausible explanation for the structure of a number of scenes in N-town 'Passion Play I,' which distinguishes the latter from other English cycles. Liturgical patterns form the substance of many of the play's scenes, especially in the form of repetitions which embody the devotional and meditational nature of many incidents in 'Passion Play I.' The playwright associated his play with both the Advent and Holy Week liturgies by the means of verbal echo and structure, though the intention was not to write a liturgical play.

Frame structure in 'The Conversion of St. Paul.'
Article Abstract:
The medieval English play 'The Conversion of St. Paul' uses framing to convey its message of religious faith. The central event is Paul's mystical experience, and it is framed by narration, recapitulatory scenes and processions. It occupies the middle of three dramatic parts of the story. The audience had a viewpoint of a progression from secular beginnings to sacred ending and so could be inspired by the story.

The 'Mystere d'Adam' and Christian memory
Article Abstract:
An examination of the 'Mystere d'Adam' indicates it was composed between 1146 and 1175 and encompasses at least three episodes recounting the Fall, Cain's murder of Abel and the prophets predicting Christ's birth. The performance on one level was entertainment, on another it served as an aid or physiological process, in Christian memory for the audiences.
