Marines unveil shoulder-fired thermobaric weapon in Iraq
Article Abstract:
The United States Marine Corps. debuted a new and devastating infantry weapon during the Iraq War of 2003: its portable version a "thermobaric" bomb used to clear Afghani caves in the previous year. Thermobaric weapons ("vacuum bombs" or "fuel-air explosives") are extremely effective in multi-room structures and confined spaces because, unlike conventional explosives, they create sustained blasts that flow around corners.
