Officials' disciplinary files not categorically exempt from disclosure
Article Abstract:
The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled in Kimberlin v. Department of Justice that public employees' right to privacy is lower when the information concerns their official conduct, so the Freedom of Information Act's privacy exemptions do not protect information in such employees' disciplinary files. The court ruled in response to a reporter's Freedom of Information Act request by federal prisoner Brett Kimberlin for records concerning alleged drug sales to Dan Quayle.
