Playing hookie
Article Abstract:
A purported memorandum of the CEO of a certain tobacco company is presented. It is addressed to the vice president for research and to the vice president for product development. It admonishes them for the failure of the supposedly programmed levels of nicotine, designed to cause the smoker to be addicted to cigarettes. The CEO is surprised at the government's view that a 45 cents increase in the price of a pack of cigarettes, because of additional taxes, would cure the smokers from their addiction.

On 'The Gate to Women's Country': an exchange
Article Abstract:
An exchange of commentaries on Sheri S. Tepper's 'The Gate to Women's Country,' is discussed, providing different ideas on the fertility of, and conception by women, sexuality and procreation. One critic implies that the book expressed irony and satire, while another believes otherwise and that that it also expressed homophobic issues. However, it is believed that some of the terms used in the novel may have misunderstood which may have caused different interpretations.
