On the space program and on science fiction: an exchange
Article Abstract:
Gary Westfahl's essay on 'The Case Against Space' suggests that space travel should be encouraged to give humans a chance to explore distant and unknown regions. Westfahl also suggests that humanity should also establish themselves in outer space to prevent planetary disasters. However, critics argue that there are 'inherent human drives' that would interfere with the effectivity of space exploration. However, Westfahl suggests that with science fiction, his proposal can be realized partially.

Lies, damned lies, and science fiction: Thomas M. Disch and the culture of mendacity
Article Abstract:
Thomas M Disch may be one of the indispensable science fiction writers of the modern times, but his latest offering, 'The Dreams Our Stuff is Made of: How Science Fiction Conquered the World,' can be classified as a big disappointment. Although some of Disch's arguments are smart and witty, most of what his work contains is sloppy, ignorant, and even offensive. These may be due, in part, to the book's extremely loose organization, as well as to its intellectual shoddiness.
