Revising the future in The Female Man
Article Abstract:
Joanna Russ's 1975 novel, The Female Man in its deployment of both utopian and dystopian narratives, affords its characters the technological ability to move laterally through time, to encounter alternate versions of themselves and their worlds. The novel models a process of re-figuration most obviously by creating simultaneous chronotopes as a narrative device and also by suggesting that by historicizing the present, by revisiting and interpreting the past, one can learn to revise forward.

Locating the Thing: The Antarctic as alien space in John W. Campbell's 'Who Goes There?'
Article Abstract:
A focus on one of the most famous, John W. Campbell's 'Who Goes There?' is made which was first published in Astounding Science-Fiction in 1938 and adapted for film as The Thing in 1951 and 1982. Drawing on Julia Kristeva's psychoanalytic theory of the abject, Yi-Fu Tuan's notion of 'alien space' and a number of fictional and nonfictional Antarctic narratives, it is argued that the Thing at the center of Campbell's text serves as an embodiment of the continent itself.

Media, drugs, and schizophrenia in the works of Philip K. Dick
Article Abstract:
The work of German media theorists Friedrich Kittler and Wolfgang Hagen are used to introduce a new way of understanding the role of media technologies in Philip K. Dick's fiction. Dick has combined the time-based theory of schizophrenia developed by existential psychotherapists with the time-axis manipulation in order to describe unconscious processes as cinematographic effects.
