Theoretical physicist Miguel Alcubierre formulated a warp metric technique for going beyond the faster-than-light speed limit. The technique, which has several science fiction applications, cannot be validated due to curved space and general relativity energy limitations.

Faster-than-light laser pulses?
Article Abstract:
Reports in July 2000 in Nature magazine announced that laser pulses had exceeded the speed of light. The velocity of laser pulses is examined with reference to their particular properties and the work of the NEC Research Institute is evaluated.
