3D TV: gimmick or killer app?

Article Abstract:

Development in 3D technology is on the rise, and with new digital products that are 3-D enabled, the possibility of 3D television not far from reality. Top hollywood directors such as Robert Zemeckis are endorsing the use of the technology, which costs twice as much as producing high definition content. Forecasts and trends in 3D technology, as well as innovations by electronics companies, are given.

Sport, live concerts and HD upgrades kept the leading outside broadcast (OB) companies in UK busy in 2007. NEP Visions handled the OB of all matches from Cardiff and Edinburgh during the Rugby World Cup, while Arqiva's biggest project was the 2007 Carling Cup final Between Arsenal and Chelsea. The big projects of other OB firms in 2007 are discussed.
