Evolution and revolution
Article Abstract:
The US House of Representatives speakership has changed greatly since Newt Gingrich assumed the office of speaker. The importance Gingrich places on publicity is evident in his highly-initiated media strategy influencing governing strategies. The emergent media speakership is based largely on an evolutionary process in the Congress. Gingrich constantly feeds the media with his highly dramatic statements. The discipline of his party and its domination in the Congress stand in Gingrich's favor. However, the tying up of governing and media strategies may prove fatal to Gingrich's career.
