Regional bias

Article Abstract:

Pact, the trade organization for independent television programme producers in the UK, is putting pressure on Channel 4 to increase the proportion of regional commissions in its overall output to one-third in value and volume terms. This comes at a time when there is considerable interest among politicians in boosting regional strength in the UK. Channel 4 is showing signs of being willing to increase commissioning from outside London, England, having appointed Stuart Cosgrove as head of programming for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Changing lifestyles

Article Abstract:

UK film producer David Green helped launch the popularity of reality documentaries, with the development of a series of programmes about living in Hollywood. Green's production company is called September Films, which he joined in 1993. Hollywood Women was the first series, which proved a verysuccessful format. Other production companies have followed Green's idea and produced programmes in the same vein. Green is hoping to expand into films which are made and produced solely in the UK.
