Demographic transition, family structure, and income inequality
Article Abstract:
A study has shown that changing population age structure has a roughly consistent impact on the member composition of all families. Results were obtained by treating each age-specific income-earning member of the family as an income 'source. The study also adopted the source-specific Gini decomposition approach and the Lorenz comparison approach. Results obtained from Taiwanese data showed that for developing countries that have undergone demographic transition, family income inequality indexed may represent data as to the age-specific composition of family members.

Consumer expenditures and inequality: an analysis based on decomposition of the Gini coefficient
Article Abstract:
An analysis describing inequality and consumer expenditures is presented. The analysis applies the Lerman and Yitzhaki covariance method for decomposing the Gini coefficient in the US economy. Decomposition yields non-parametric estimates of elasticities with respect to total expenditures. A Gini coefficient of 0.33 was estimated for total annual consumption expenditures. The result implies that taxation of such goods and services affects the tax system.

Estimation of revealed probabilities and utility function for product safety decisions
Article Abstract:
Individual utility functions varies significantly from risk perceptions suggested by consumers' decisions. Utilization of an empirical model revealed that behavioral risk beliefs represented in risky decisions made by consumers deviates from stated probabilities given to consumers during a survey. Such findings show incongruency with a Bayesian learning model in which the information respondents utilize is being limited to what the survey suggests.
