Does school quality matter? Evidence from the national longitudinal survey of youth
Article Abstract:
The effect of school quality on the wages of students was investigated by analyzing data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth on white males in 1979 and 1989. Previous studies on this topic indicate that school quality had either significant or insignificant effects on wages. Analysis of the data suggests that the wages of workers were significantly related to school quality. However, standard measures of school quality could not indicate the differences among schools. A number of explanations on the low correlation between school quality and wages were discussed.

The effects of family characteristics on the return to education
Article Abstract:
The impact of family background on the education slopes of wage equations is investigated. Data on sibling pairs from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) and the National Longitudinal Surveys of Labor Market Experience of Young Men and Young Women (NLS) are analyzed. Results showed a positive effect of parents' education, particularly that of mother's, for men in both data sets. A substantial effect of mother's education was observed for women in the NLS, but not the PSID.

Do school resources matter only for older workers?
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine whether school resources have an impact on worker wages only after workers have gained considerable experience in the labor market. School-level and sate-level data from the Census and Biennial Survey of Education were analyzed. The data sets both showed that age dependence is not the primary root of divergence between literature on the relationship between school resources and earnings.
