Import price uncertainty and the distribution of income

Article Abstract:

A study has revealed that import price uncertainty results to a decline in welfare, imports, and gross output, affecting labor more than capital. Results of the study were obtained by estimating oil and nonoil import demand functions for the US. Import demand functions both originate from an expected utility maximization problem, treating imports as inputs to the technology. The model enabled risk aversion to be tested and the impact of uncertainty on the volume of imports, gross output and the distribution of income to be assessed.

Assessing the effects of wives' earnings on family income inequality

Article Abstract:

An approach was proposed to effectively assess the impact of wives' earnings on family income inequality. Unlike a Gini decomposition approach, assessment can be best made if comparison is undertaken between observed income distribution and a reference distribution. Effective assessment also results if considerations are made with regards to factors such as family income less wives' earnings and a small percentage decrease in wives' earnings.

Changes in the distribution of individual earnings in the United States: 1967-1986

Article Abstract:

The sensitivity of income inequality findings to the measurement method used and the population segment studied is analyzed. Results show that variations in inequality over time is affected by the measure used and that its increase is not only caused by shifts in employment distribution but also by rising inequality among the groups studied.
