Searching for the "productivity slowdown:" some surprising findings from West German manufacturing
Article Abstract:
An analysis describing total factor productivity (TFP) in West Germany is presented. Long-term negative trend or structural break in TFP following the outbreak of the first oil price shock is tested. The test covered West German manufacturing industries which were studied using capital as a quasi-fixed variable. It is shown that the hypothesis of TFP is not valid after scale economy and utilization adjustments.
