Testing the convergence hypothesis: a comment
Article Abstract:
Lichtenberg claims in his test of the convergence hypothesis that the variance of productivity across countries decreases over time. However, a simulation experiment has proven that Lichtenberg's proposed test procedure results to a low probability of accepting the hypothesis of convergence regardless of whether or not it is true. Three statistics to a data set of 22 Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries for the periods 1950-1994 and 1960-1985 were applied. Overall results have shown that the degree of convergence of OECD countries has decreased since 1950.

The welfare effects of disarmament on the United States under NATO and the Warsaw pact
Article Abstract:
A mathematical model of disarmament combining the economic theory of alliance and rationing theory was developed to measure welfare gain from a mutual disarmament treaty. The disarmament treaty chosen for evaluation was the mutual disarmament agreement between NATO and the Warsaw pact and its effect on the consumption behavior of the US and welfare gains or losses to the country. Results derived include the possibility of the US gaining $21.7 billion dollars from the disarmament treaty that imposes a 10% military spending cut on each nation.

Employment effects of immigration to Germany: an analysis based on local labor markets
Article Abstract:
A study supported that increased immigration does not affect employment outcomes of natives in Germany. Results were collected from a data set of country-level variables for the late 1980s. A more unified labor market regions were obtained by aggregating the 328 countries to 167 larger regions. Two methods of immigration were examined, namely the change in the share of foreigners between 1985 and 1989 and the one-year gross and net flows of immigrants to an area.
