Acquisition programs
Article Abstract:
Germany's Bundeswehr severely lacks the required funds to acquire new equipment, especially for the Luftwaffe. Most of its equipment deficiencies will likely be addressed in cooperation with NATO allies and, possibly, with NATO 'partner' countries. The Luftwaffe critically needs to replace two aircraft types that are older than many of the pilots flying them: the F-4F Phantom II fighter and the C-160D Transall transport. The army needs new helicopters, armored transports and artillery, while the Navy needs new frigates, corvettes, submarines and aircraft.

Article Abstract:
Armscor CEO Llew Roy Swan stressed that his company's primary function is to cost effectively address the needs of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) in terms of its capital acquisition programs and related logistical support. Its secondary function is to dispose all of SANDF's surplus military equipment and find buyers for the products of South African defense firms. Swan noted that Armscor's potential for growth appears to lie Asia and Europe but it hopes to eventually enter the US market.
