High-speed ejection

Article Abstract:

The Air Force continues to develop combat aircraft pilot ejection systems that address numerous requirements such as accommodations for a broader range of male and female aircrew sizes and weights. One of the most difficult needs to address has been the determination of the maximum speed which enable state-of-the-art ejection seats to afford a low likelihood of injury. Engineers with the help of their Russian counterparts are designing ejection seats that allow for successful, injuy-free escapes at speeds of up to 730 knots equivalent air speed.
