Air support control for the 21st century

Article Abstract:

The US Marine Corps should re-analyzed the issue of air support control as it prepares to employ the Marine expeditionary force (MEF) in the 21st- century battlefields. This issue is not clear because force organization and some doctrine still reflect linear definition of a MEF. For example, DASC doctrine does not agree with present MEF warfighting methods at least on three aspects. These are MEF's use of a force fires coordination center instead of a fire support coordination center, DASC's responsibility and subordination of the DASC to the tactical air command center.

Marine air control group - be gone!

Article Abstract:

The US Marine Corps should transform from specialized forms of command and control (C2) to a flatter and more broad C2 system that supports and maximizes technological advantages. It ought to elimate the current Marine air control group, put the ground combat people on the transformed C2 systems and create a more centralized Web site for warfare from which all levels of C2 can be exercised. These developments will pave the way for absolute integration of all supporting units of the combined arms group.
