CVX: evolution of a revolution

Article Abstract:

The Navy CVX program involves the development of new aircraft carriers for 21st century naval operations. The CVX will be equipped with new technologies that will enhance its warfighting abilities and have longer service life. The acquisition of CVX vessels is intended to support a 12 carrier force for an effective security strategy that involves power-projection capabilities. The carriers are also intended as platforms for sea-based presence and as replacements for Nimitz-class vessels.

China offers to export Navy's new advanced frigate

Article Abstract:

China State Shipbuilding Corp has launched its new frigate designated as F22 at the the 1999 International Defense Exhibition in Abu Dhabi. The 2,180-ton frigate, known in the West as the "Jiangwei," is designed for export by the company. It has a speed of 27.2 knots and features CIS combat system, air/surface search radar, three fire control radars, one navigation radar, ESM, active jammer, chaff/IR launchers and Echo Type 5 sonar.

Report on Chinese CV suggests fleet operations in 2005

Article Abstract:

A shipyard in Shanghai, China, will build a 48,000-ton aircraft carrier for China's People's Liberation Army, according to the Chinese Hong Kong- based newspaper Ming Pao. Construction of the ship is scheduled to be completed by 2003 and it is expected to be in operation by 2005. The 30- knot ship will feature Russian-designed steam turbines and will carry 24 Sukhoi Su-30MKK combat aircraft.
