Germany's HDW to merge with Sweden's Kockums

Sweden-based Kockums AB and Germany-based Howaldtswerle-Deutsche Werft AG plans to merge, signalling a consolidation in the European naval shipbuilding industry. A contract for the formation of the combined company for HDW and Kockums Naval Systems was signed by Kockums' owners, the Celcius Group, and HDW's owners, Babcock Borsig and Preussag. The deal calls for for Preussag to sell 25% plus one of its HDW shares to Celcius. HDW will buy all shares in Kockums Naval Systems from Celcius.

Finnish Navy orders fourth Hamina fast-attack craft
Article Abstract:
Aker Finnyards entered into a US$28.6 million contract with the Finnish Navy on February 16, 2005 for the construction of the fourth Hamina-class fast-attack craft (FAC), and may receive orders for two additional ships in 2006. The Portuguese Ministry of Defense has signed a contract with ENVC shipyard for the construction of one Schelde Enforcer-class landing platform dock (LPD).
