Article Abstract:

King Gyanendra will have to first show his people that the Royal Nepalese Army can restore security to the country's roads if his regime is to survive in Nepal. The challenges faced by the King after assuming power as executive monarch of Nepal by dismissing the Nepalese government on 1 February 2005 are discussed.

The transition of securing stabilization in Iraq and the failures in planning for the peacekeeping role after the combat phase are examined. The stabilization process is a multifaceted activity that requires junior commanders in politics and management of civil resources right down to street level.
