Off the beaten track in search of Russian armour upgrades

Article Abstract:

Russian upgrade programs are expected to become increasingly important in the near future as the lack of finances force armed forces' to make do with enhancements. Russian design bureau are giving considerable attention to the upgrade of AFVs such as the T-62M M-1996. In the AFV arena, Russian retrofit programs are aimed primarily at improving sales to foreign markets, with emphasis in the future use by the Russian Federation. The article also discusses other weapons improvement programs undertaken by the Russian government.

Pokharan blast, Agni tests fail to protect Vajpayee coalition

Article Abstract:

India has tested nuclear weapons at Pokharan and the 2,000-km range Agni II intermediate-range ballistic missile in an attempt to protect the fragile coalition government of Inian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. The initiatives failed as the Indian legislative Lower House refused to endorse a motion of confidence by Vajpayee by a single vote. How the new government will treat his concept of 'minimum and credible nuclear deterrence' has become a subject of speculation.
