SOSTAR consortium plans demonstration in support of the European ISTAR cause

Article Abstract:

The five-member European SOSTAR airborne ground surveillance radar consortium is planning for a July 2007 customer demonstration in order to prove that it has met the requirements of the SOSTAR-X radar demonstrator project. The SOSTAR-X has produced a solution that can be used as a basis for European national or multinational intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) programmes and the July 2007 demonstration will be performed by the SOSTAR-X radar system installed on the programme's Fokker 100 flying testbed.

Ericsson proposes NBD widening to non-military organizations

Article Abstract:

The proposal by Ericsson Microwave Systems that the network-based defense (NBD) architecture concept, which it had developed for the Swedish armed forces, be extended to non-military agencies and authorities is discussed. The concept of NBD is necessary to improve the protection of Western societies in order to counteract the growing threats of international terrorism, organized crime, and natural and man-made disasters.

Thales focuses on development of new thermal sight variants

Article Abstract:

Thales Optronics BV, Netherlands has started development of two improved versions of its Lion (lightweight infrared observation night sight) hand-held uncooled thermal imaging camera. The new camera is propose to feature several improvements over the standard Lion, and hence it is observed that the new advancement is its 35 mum-pitch 320 * 240- pixel detector, supplied by French-based ULIS.
