Speed is of the essence for NATO response

Article Abstract:

Admiral Andrea Toscano, Maritime Component Commander of the NATO Response Force (NRF), speaks about the challenges inherent in maintaining an expeditionary maritime force at a state of high readiness. He quoted the maritime force's utility during Hurricane Katrina and believes that it can read any coast worldwide and maintain a presence of naval assets with aircraft, helicopters and amphibious forces to ensure the permanent presence of NATO in an affected area.

Underwater innovation: Behind the scenes at NURC

Collective countries of the alliance have assigned NATO Undersea Research Centre (NURC) to develop technology and equipment solutions and to redress perceived underwater capability gaps within the organization. NURC has to find common solutions for NATO that could be integrated into its wide range of navies for use in a joint context.
