Tag-team manning: Crew-swapping concept reaches East Coast ship

Article Abstract:

In a tag-team manning experiment, crew members from the warships Gonzalez, Laboon and Stout will be manning the guided-missile destroyers on a rotating basis, one team being relieved by another every six months. Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Vern Clark, the man behind the idea, believes in challenging every assumption and seeking new and better ways to perform required tasks and this experiment if successful could be the way for the future of Navy.

Naval helicopter shakeout

Article Abstract:

The U.S Navy helicopter fleet is undergoing a modernization program, Helicopter Master Plan that would replace the existing inventory with more multimission and combat-capable aircraft by the year 2015. The Navy would use two versions of the MH-60, MH-60S Knighthawk and MH-60R Strikehawk thus replacing four types of U.S. Navy helicopters.

Mine Killer: Airborne gun system targets threats lurking below the surface

Article Abstract:

High-tech sea-and-destroy systems are developed to effectively combat undersea mines. The U.S. navy plans to buy 44 Rapid Airborne Clearance System (RAMICS) units, a helicopter-mounted 30mm gun that fires laser-directed darts at floating and surface-moored undersea mines between 2006 and 2013.
