US Army buys more SINGCARS radios
Article Abstract:
ITT Aerospace/Communications Division has been endowed with a $156.7-million contract to manufacture 33,000 units of Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINGCARS) for the US Army. The new contract, which augments a previous SINGCARS task awarded in April 1997, that ITT is presently fulfilling, has a delivery schedule set to commence in summer-1998. The frequency-hopping SINGCARS radios are tactical communications systems that consolidate voice and data communications, and enable seamless secure communications across various command echelons. ITT is the exclusive supplier of the Advanced Lightweight SINGCARS SIP (ASIP) radio, which is a smaller variant of the SINGCARS and functions as the foundation for the Army's emerging Tactical Internet.
