An interview with Maria Luisa Bemberg
Article Abstract:
Maria Luisa Bemberg, an Argentinian filmmaker of repute, has several major films to her credit including 'Senora de nadie' (Nobody's wife), 'Camila,' 'Yo, la peor de todas' (I, the Worst Woman of All) and 'Miss Mary.' She reveals that her objective in making films on historical women in Argentina was not based on grand ideals such as highlighting the importance of women in history. She found the subject of Camila O'Gorman, a social rebel in 19th-century Argentina, challenging and decided to project her as daring rather than submissive. Maria admits she is easily bored by the battle scenes in historical films and prefers to adopt an impressionist approach in making historical films.
