Issues related to the Vaughn Williams Memorial Library of the English Folk Dance and Song Society's manuscript collections of folk music and dance historian Maud Karpeles are examined, focusing on her work with folk historian Cecil Sharp and an outline of materials in her manuscript collection. Topics include her field trips to the Appalachian Mountains and Newfoundland, letters between Sharp and Karpeles, and her edition of "Cecil Sharp's Collection of English Folk Songs."

James Madison Carpenter and the mummers' play
Article Abstract:
James Madison Carpenter collected multiple versions of 154 different mummers' plays between 1933 and 1935. His fieldwork was more complete than others because he included Dictaphone recordings and photographs along with the texts. However, his collection was unavailable to the public until quit recently.
