A warm-sounding stereo system is installed in a 1992 Ford Explorer. The system consists of a $600 Alpine 7618 stereo and an $850 Alpine 5959 CD changer. The speakers are two two-way Polks: MM 3055 systems costing $349.95, and two Kicker Competition C-6.5 woofers at $75 each. The Phoenix Gold MQ430 amplifier costs $599.95.

The 1996 Winter Consumer Electronics Show focused on the Digital VideoDisc (DVD). The DVD format, which can contain 7 to 25 times as much data as a CD, is considered to be the media technology which will replace the CD, CD-ROM, laserdisc and videocassette formats.

Motorola's stereo AM format, C-QUAM, is close to being designated as the industry standard by the Federal Communications Commission. Along with the FCC expansion of the AM band by 100 kHz, C-QUAM could lead to a revival of AM radio broadcasting.
