Guangzhou's huge 1994 audio equipment show was a consumer-oriented event that attracted well over 100,000 people. Analysts believe that China will be a very large market for modern consumer audio products. However, some audio retailers in the Pan Yu area of the city sell substandard products.

The oddball state of world audio
Article Abstract:
The tendency of large manufacturers of audio equipment to target varying national tastes with different products prevents and international standard, or "world model", from taking hold. This policy keeps certain kinds of high-quality audio equipment out of national markets deemed unreceptive.

Lists of awards given to audio-visual equipment by organizations and electronics periodicals in the US and Europe are compared. All of the awards are biased in favor of local products, but there is more overlapping in the European awards.
