The promise and problems of computer sound boards
Article Abstract:
The "CD quality" label claimed by 2 computer sound card makers was put to the test by comparing their performances with that of CD players. Creative Labs' Sound Blaster AWE32 and Turtle Beach's Monterey were picked for the test. The Monterey model tested positive for CD quality, the AWE32 did not.

Switched-on amps: power with a pulse

Some audio firms are developing switching amplifiers, which vacillate between positive and negative states at the output phase, because they have the potential to generate impressive levels of power without using much energy. Infinity Systems and Arnoux Corp are two firms working on such amps.
