The portrayal of men in film has changed slowly since the action heroes of the 1980s, and men appear more and more as weak bimbos, especially when compared to the ever-strengthening female sex. From 1990s hits such as "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" to "Dude, Where's My Car?" released in 2001, the films dumb blonds are men.

The adverse effects of long, intense working hours on social and family life are discussed. Surveys on working patterns in Australia show that employees work 5 to 10 hours more per week compared to 1999 in all levels of work.
