The Royal Bank of Canada will pay $1.6 billion for most of the assets of Royal Trustco, Canada's second-largest trust company. Royal Trustco was forced into the merger by serious financial troubles. Royal Trustco lost $850 million in 1992, compared to a $107 million profit in 1991.
