A new music technology says, 'Listen here'
Article Abstract:
The music industry is updating old-fashioned listening booths. The Intouch Group is making the I-station, an interactive kiosk that will play back samples from 30,000 albums via a touch-screen computer menu. Playing the I-station requires a special I-card, which can only be obtained by giving a store clerk demographic information. Intouch plans to sell that information to music producers and retailers. Muze Inc makes kiosks that will search for an album title by song, artist or lyric fragment. The aging of the general population and the high price of CDs means that the core audience of the US industry is growing older and hence more cautious about its purchases. Therefore, getting additional information to the consumer reduces the risk they are taking in making the purchase.

Tiny rival says Nintendo made secret changes
Article Abstract:
American Video Entertainment Inc, a San Jose, CA, video game manufacturer, charges that Nintendo Company of Japan is shipping secretly modified machines to the US. According to American Video Entertainment, the new machines include technical changes that render competitors' cartridges unplayable on Nintendo systems. The video game company also contends that retailers and consumers are not aware of these alterations because Nintendo never told anyone about them and does not mention the incompatibilities or changes on the packaging. A spokeswoman for Nintendo characterizes such charges are 'crude scare tactics,' saying that changes in Nintendo hardware are part of an ongoing effort to deal with a worldwide game counterfeiting problem.
