AOL prepares to grab Net users from Europe's phone titans
Article Abstract:
America Online (AOL) expects to replicate its success in the US in Europe as telecommunications regulators on the continent force Europe's major phone companies to phase out their per-minute Internet fees, which fund free online services, in favor of a flat monthly fee for Internet services. AOL uses the latter fee structure to encourage consumers to spend more time viewing online ads and shopping within its 'walled garden' proprietary service.
