Academics make the switch
Article Abstract:
Australia's universities changed from Telstra to Optus as their Internet provider in 1997, and the move was largely successful. Optus has increased the universities' receptions from 4.5 to 7.5 gigabytes of data per month and has linked all universities to each other. These links will mean national traffic data management strategies can be implemented in 1998, allowing local storage for data received from overseas.

Article Abstract:
Australian universities are still generating millions in tuition from foreign students. Australia is ranked third in terms of foreign student numbers after the US and Britain. However, there are concerns in the US where the share of the market has fallen from 40% to 32%. Similar problems are being directed at the Australian government, but most problems are as a result of the Asian financial crisis.
