American landing back on schedule
Article Abstract:
American Airlines is expected to normalize flight schedules on February 22, 1999, after reducing cancelled flights from 250 to 18. The airline is believed to have incurred an estimated loss of $75 million during the 11-day stoppage, where nearly 1,200 flights were cancelled due to pilots' sickout. The job action, which started February 6, 1999, has been triggered by disagreement between the company and Allied Pilots Associtation over issues of pay and seniority.

Britain grounds its Concordes
Article Abstract:
The British Civil Aviation Authority has decided to ground the Concorde fleet of British Airways following the supersonic jet's crash last month in Paris. French investigators think that the crash was caused by a burst tire, which in turn caused a fuel leak and a massive fire on the jet as it attained takeoff speed. The grounding of the entire Concorde is considered a very unfavorable sign that could destroy the aircraft's commercial viability.
