Phan Thi Kim Phuc, who survived a 1972 US-ordered napalm attack in Vietnam, forgives those responsible for her injuries. Kim was photographed at age 9 running naked down a country road after she was burned. The photograph won the Pulitzer Prize and fostered popular opposition to the Vietnam war.

Temperatures across Canada were below usual seasonal levels for most of the summer. Southern Ontario, for example, had its coldest weather for June since 1840. The weather had a great effect on growing conditions by delaying crops.
