Animal activist
Article Abstract:
Mick Leigh, 63, is an Australian bush poet who published his own poems and goes out to read them and tell wildlife stories to schoolchildren in England and Australia. English-born, but having emigrated at age 19, he fought in England in 1997 to have kangaroo, emu, and ostrich meat taken off supermarket meat counters. In time Tesco, the largest supermarket chain, withdrew the meats and other market groups followed. What had been a flourishing industry is now very hostile toward him. Cruelty to animals and poor management of wildlife, the environment and fisheries have always disturbed him.
