Cambodia left to its fate

The United Nations in 1993 monitored an election in Cambodia to restore stability and respect to the country. On Jul 26, 1998, Cambodians will go to the polls again. However, Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party (CPP) is masterminding a plan based on fear and intimidation to ensure victory. The CPP's organizations have been seen taking religious voters to temples to swear their support for CPP. Others have been physically forced or black-mailed to pledge loyalty to the party.

Clash of the warrior women

New Zealand Prime Minister Jenny Shipley promises a good fight with Labour Party leader Helen Clark for leadership of the country in the 1999 election. Shipley was sworn in on December 8, 1997 after wresting control of the National Party from Jim Bolger. Clark expects to be the first woman elected as Prime Minister, given that her party is far ahead of Shipley's coalition in national polls.
