Designing tools for the designers
Article Abstract:
Parametric Technology Corp's Pro/Engineer computer-aided design software has helped to increase revenues from $3 million in 1988 to an expected $80 million in fiscal 1992. Pro/Engineer is popular because it provides users with the flexibility to make changes and overhaul of designs. Users are often able to reduce their design time by half. Parametric has also based its software on Unix, enabling it to run on many high-powered workstations. Many analysts say that Parametric's software is easier to use, providing more features at a much lower price than the competition. An average Parametric software setup sells for approximately $20,000.

Saving the universe, Sam Spade style
Article Abstract:
Anachronox, the role-playing game from Ice Storm, is an exploration game set in a visually gripping world. The game retains the best aspects of the role-playing-game genre, while avoiding the genre's annoying pitfalls. However, after 40 hours of riveting and fascinating play, the dull end of the game is a major disappointment. Red Faction, the action game from Volition, lets the player feel a sense of physicality, and has many interesting surprises. However, the uninteresting plot and uninspired voice acting eventually cause one to lose interest in finishing the game.
